Dr. Olayemi Olupitan oversees the SURGE Project, under the ACHIEVE grant in Rivers State. She coordinates and manages massive scale-up of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment to achieve epidemic control in the 23 Local Government Areas in the State.
She supervises and mentors health care workers at 117 health facilities supported by the Institute and also provides support to over 100 employees and more than 1000 ad-hoc-staff for effective implementation of the HIV program. Dr Olupitan guides the coordination of program activities of key stakeholders, including state implementation teams and community-based organisations involved in the SURGE project, with a focus on achieving the 95-95-95 UNAIDS goal.
Within the Institute, Dr Olupitan has worked as Program Associate at National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Training Centre (NTBLTCP); as Program Officer TB/HIV, as Regional Medical Officer/Senior Program Officer, Acting Regional Manager in the Lagos Regional Office and Regional Manager in FCT Regional Office.
She studied Medicine at Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State and has a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of Warwick in England. Dr. Olupitan is a member of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and has facilitated and participated in numerous training sessions /workshops within and outside Nigeria.
She is interested in HIV and TB research and enjoys reading, networking, and travelling.
