Press Release | IHVN/SFH train police officers on HCT

Cross-section of Police men and women at the trainingThe Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) has collaborated with Society for Family Health (SFH) to provide technical support in a training for over 20 police officers drawn from police clinics spread across the country.

The ten-day training on HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) which was held in the training hall of IHVN and training lab at Asokoro covered areas such as ethics in counseling, couple counseling, counseling skills, approaches, elements, outcomes and principles.

Yohanna Ayama, a participant from Yobe State noted that “I had some doubts about HIV before but now those issues have been cleared. I know more about HIV especially about sero discordant couples.” For Esther Kachala from Police College, she has learnt how to approach a client when counseling “Now that we are going back…we are going to advise them to do HIV test so that they will live safely with their partners.”
